Jewellery Care Guide

Please follow these guidelines to ensure your hand-crafted piece brings you years of joy.

All jewellery is delicate - please wear and handle with due care.

Materials

Enamel pieces are made of glass fused onto silver, and may crack if dropped or knocked hard, or scratch if stored against harder materials, such as sapphires and diamonds.

Fine silver (Ag 999) is not an alloy,it does not tarnish but can patina over time, it is also softer than an alloy, so is less resistant to scratching. Fine silver is used as a base for vitreous enamel in order to achieve beautiful clarity of the transparent colours and allow intricate detail to be appreciated through the enamel.

Argentium silver (Ag 930 / 960), is an alloy of silver with tiny amounts of copper and germanium- this makes it harder than fine silver, so better suited for jewellery that undergoes more wear, such as rings. It is also more tarnish resistant and maintains a whiter colour than Sterling.

Sterling silver (Ag 925) is an alloy of silver with copper. This makes it more durable but it will naturally tarnish due to the small amount of copper oxidizing over time.

Wearing

The best way to keep silver shining is to wear it!

To reduce the rate of tarnishing;

- Avoid prolonged contact with water - remove jewellery when you shower or bathe, on the beach, in the sea, in chlorinated water and in hot springs

- Let your jewellery be your finishing touch when getting ready - avoid spraying perfume or applying creams directly onto your jewellery

- Your jewellery enjoys the same conditions you do - keep away from extreme temperatures, humidity and sunlight, and any harsh cleaners.

Storing

Store pieces separately, in their own box to stop them getting scratched or tangled.

Ideally store your jewellery in a dark, cool and dry place.

Cleaning

Use a soft, lint free cloth to gently wipe clean before storing.

If your pieces get dirty, a brief rinse in warm soapy water and a gentle scrub with a very soft toothbrush should do the trick.

You can buff with the jewellery cloth provided with each purchase, this is impregnated with silver cleaner. You can use these cloths until they are black – they should not be washed.
